Super Mario Hero 2: The Dimension Doors

By Shy Ranger
General Stuff No One Cares About

Console: Wii
Second Controller Needed: Numchuck
Players: 1 (2 in Multiplayer)
Price: $50.00

Story (Again, something no one cares about)

“COME TO LUIGI LAND”

“Come to the greatest theme park based off of everyone’s favorite green plumber, Luigi.”

After seeing this ad, Luigi starts running, pulling Mario behind him, to the park, when suddenly, Mario falls through a black pit. While walking through the cave, Mario sees some skinny, shadowy creatures. He starts running away to the exit of the cave, and reaches a large, white structure.

Castle of Dimensions

A Toad recognizes Mario. “Hey, you’re Luigi’s brother, but I don’t see Luigi. Well maybe you can help until he comes. This is the Castle of Dimensions, the palace that links our world to the others, which keeps them in peace. These links are created by magical Dimension Doors, which are created by magical orbs called Dorbs, but something terrible has happened.”

Necros and the Gloomers

“An evil Magikoopa called Necros used his magic to scatter the Dorbs, thus breaking the links. Now, the worlds are weakened, and with his army of Shadows, Necros plans to conquer all the worlds.”

Mario decides to help, just because he doesn’t want to go to Luigi Land.

Characters (Who Cares)

Mario: The main hero of the game (again) who must now venture through dimensions and collect Dorbs.

Luigi: The greatest plumber in the world, who even has his own theme park.

Peach: … Is not in this one, HA HA!

Mr. L: WHAAAAT?! How is he here when Luigi is somewhere else? Necros used his magic to bring back Mr. L, but only in ghost form. This is why Mario never fights him, but instead races him.

Bowser: He’s not the villain in this game; however, Mario will venture to one of his lands.

Necros: The evil Magikoopa with black robes who commands an army of Gloom shadows. He scattered the Dorbs and is terrorizing the dimension.

Dorbs

Dorbs are the key item of this game. They are like Stars of SM64 or Shine Sprites of Super Mario Sunshine. You collect them in order to unlock other worlds.

Dorbs come in different colors for each world, but the color is irrelevant.

120 Dorbs

Yes, there are 120 Dorbs to collect. In addition to the Castle of Dimension, there are 10 other worlds with Dorbs. So, let’s see how that adds out.

10 Selectable Dorbs – 10 Worlds: 100 Dorbs
1 Dorb for Getting 100 Coins – 10 Worlds: 10 Dorbs
Secret Castle Dorbs: 9 Dorbs
Final Secret Dorb: 1 Dorb

Collect all 120 for a surprise. What is it? Keep reading to find out.

Common Dorbs

Races: There are many races in the game, and you must either beat your opponent to the finish line, or make it to the end before time runs.

Red Orbs: Instead of Red Coins, you must collect 8 Red Orbs. Each world has it.

Secret Area: Just like in Sunshine, each world has one secret area to find. You must enter and make it to the end of an obstacle course. Unlike Sunshine, there’s no bonus challenge when you return.

Dorb 7 – The Boss: Every world has a boss battle at Dorb 7. When you beat the boss, you also get a Black Key. I wonder what it’s for.

100 Coins: It’s not a selectable Dorb, but when you collect 100 coins in a world, you’ll get a Dorb.

Other Items

Yellow Coin: A common coin given up by enemies or found in the area, worth 1 coin.

Green Coin: An uncommon coin given up by harder enemies, worth 2 coins.

Blue Coin: A rarer coin given up by tougher enemies, worth 5 coins.

Coin Block: Keep jumping at it for more Yellow Coins.

1-Up Mushroom: A green Mushroom that gives Mario one life.

Golden Mushroom: An extremely rare item, only one in each world (total of 12). Permanently increases the number of lives you start with by 1. (Mario begins with 4 at the start.)

Blue Switch: Jump or attack it to activate something.

T Block: Attack it to transform.

Transparent T Block: If it’s transparent, you can’t attack it, meaning you haven’t unlocked that Transformation yet.

Red Orb: One Dorb in each world requires you to find 8 of these.

Hammer: Only found in Frosty Desert and Horroria. You swing it for a limited time (like in the original Donkey Kong). Used to break Ice Statues.

Save Block: Found in special areas (such as Horroria), and you hit it to activate it. When you die and must start over, you’ll appear at that block.

Transformations

Instead of power-ups, Mario can transform in this game. Each T Block that has a different form will start out transparent, and must be unlocked before it can be used.

Monty Mario: You turn into a Monty Mole and can break through Gray Boulders by pressing B. To change back, step into water. In Calm Wind Wood Dorb 2, you’ll gain this power when you talk to Toad.

Mario Cheep: You become a Cheep Cheep. You have infinite air underwater and can swim faster, but Bubbas will still attack you. To change back, jump onto land. In Buccaneer Bay Dorb 2, find the T Block on the dock. Once you use it once, you can use it in every other area.

Thwompio: You are now a Thwomp. You’ll be very slow, but invincible. Enemies won’t attack you, and you can hit Heavy Switches. To change back, enter water, hit fire, or get squashed by a Thwomp. Complete Dorb 2 in Mt. Stony to unlock it.

Laki-Mario: You gain a Lakitu Cloud. Now you can jump super high and float super long. To change back, enter water or simply do a Ground Pound. To unlock it, in Sub-con Dorb 2, talk to the Lakitu you chased in Dorb 1. He’ll be on the cloud where you collected the Dorb.

Elec-Mario: Mario is full of electricity. He is immune to lightning, and pressing B causes him to shoot sparks, which can activate Thunder Columns. Staying in this form requires friction, and you’ll change back if stay still for too long. You also change back when you touch water. Find the hidden T Block in the forest in Mini-Game Island Dorb 2 to unlock it.

Bowser: That’s right, Mario can transform into Bowser, but sadly, it’s only a suit. Mario becomes slow and can barely jump. However, no enemies will attack, and you can talk to them and unlock new gates. The suit will burn away when hit by fire, and will sink when in water. In Bowser Land (any Dorb), buy this at the Item Shop for 50 coins.

Game Guide Time!!!

Ok, ok, now that all that stuff’s out of the way, let’s get started.

Castle of Dimensions – The World Hub
Music: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories – Castle Oblivion (final world)

This is the main hub of the game. When you starT up the game, you’ll begin at the castle entrance (right outside the castle).

Unlocking Worlds
When you explore through the castle, you’ll come across pedestals of different colors with a number on them. If you have that number of Dorbs or more, stand on the pedestal. It will send out a beam of light, creating a Dimension Door to the world somewhere else in the castle.

The Golden Pedestal
This is a special pedestal found in the center of the Foyer in the castle. It can be activated several times; however, it does not show you numbers of Dorbs. So when in doubt, try it out, or just look below for the numbers.

World 1: Calm Wind Woods
Music: Paper Mario – Flower Fields (with sunlight)

World 3: Mt. Stony
Music: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time – Thwomp Mountain

Dorb 7 – He is the Great Wart: Wart’s Castle has appeared. Enter it, and fight him in the final room to win a Dorb.

World 5: Mini-Game Island
Music: Mario Party – Mini-Game Island

Anyone who’s played Mario Party remembers this world, it’s the area that challenged your skills at the mini-games. Well, in SMH2, this one does too. You will have to explore the many areas and play some mini-games. (For info on them, see the Multiplayer section at the very bottom.) Mario also learns his next transformation, Elec-Mario. How shocking!

World 6: Bowser Land
Music: Mario Party 2 – Bowser Land

Welcome to the greatest Koopa theme park. Currently, there are no tourists, as the park is trying to repair due to its horrid conditions. Mario is not welcome here, but luckily Bowser’s not here (he’s checking his competition, Luigi Land). Here you must explore the many attractions, learn your final transformation, and use it to talk to the Koopas.

Dorbs:
Dorb 1 – A Park Without Power?: All of the rides aren’t working, as the five Thunder Columns aren’t on. Use a T Block and turn into Elec-Mario, and use him to activate all 5. Once you do, the rides turn on, and a Dorb appears.

Dorb 2 – The Lazy Boom Booms: If you haven’t yet, collect 50 coins and buy the Bowser Transformation from the Item Shop. There are 5 Boom Booms sleeping around the park. Turn into Bowser and talk to each of them to wake them up, to get them back up and working. Once you wake up the fifth, he’ll give you a Dorb he found.

Dorb 3 – Bowser Parade: For some reason, the 3 Parade Committees have stopped the parade. Use the Bowser form to have the Boom Booms allow you access (unlock all 3 before changing back). In each Committee Building, there are Glooms harassing the Koopa Kids. Defeat all 3, and even if you’re not Bowser, the Koopa Kids will activate the parade. Save all 3 buildings to watch the parade, which will leave a Dorb behind when it leaves.

Dorb 4 – Bowser’s Inferno Adventures: The Inferno room is now up and running. Turn into Bowser to get access, but turn back. Instead, enter to see a Boom Boom at the top of the Inferno path. Note: You are now past the halfway point. By now, you should have unlocked all the transformations. Now, you’ll be facing harder areas, and newer enemies.

Cold Bones: A glass Dry Bones. It’s invulnerable to most attacks, but one Ground-Pound will shatter him away.
Gloomfire: A Gloom with fire on his head, but punching him won’t hurt either of you. Only punching him into frozen water will defeat him.
Glummy: A Gloom mummy. Punching these guys will break them into many pieces, but after 3 seconds, they will reform. They can’t be completely defeated.

World 8: Planet O
Music: Paper Mario 2 – Rogueport Sewers

This is a semi-small planet that Super Mario Galaxy missed. It is mostly rocky with mountains and craters. Because this planet is small, it was no trouble for the Glooms to takeover this planet. It’s up to Mario to take the Dorbs back.

Unlocking the World: 50 Dorbs Needed

World 9: Isles of Weird
Music: Game & Watch Gallery – Octopus

Unlocking the World: 60 Dorbs Needed

Pedestal: Swim up in the Floor Room 1 to see the Rainbow Pedestal. Not only does it unlock the Dimension Door, but this one also creates rainbow clouds in the Cloudy Room.

Entrance: Transform into Laki-Mario in the Cloudy Room, and hop on the moving rainbow clouds. Keep hoping until you hop onto the largest highest one, which will take you to the Weird Room (hit the Blue Switch to create green pipe shortcut to the Cloudy Room). The Dimension Door is at the top of the spiral tower in the Weird Room.

Enemies
Jester: Funny clown enemies from SMRPG that shoot cards at you. Attack them 5 times to beat them.

Dorb 10 – The Door: There’s a door somewhere in the world, and you must find it for a Dorb in the white room.

World 10: Smithy’s Factory
Music: Super Mario RPG – Smithy’s Factory (Fast Remix)

It’s baaaaaack. This time, you must save Smithy’s (evil) minions from the Glooms. Strange, eh? The Glooms have taken over the factory and are using Smithy’s machine-made minions. In this world, falling stinks, as you can fall many different ways.

Unlocking the World: 70 Dorbs Needed

Pedestal: Activate the Golden Pedestal to unlock the door to the right in the Entrance Hall, AND it unlocks the Dimension Door to Smithy’s Factory.

Entrance: In the Entrance Hall, use the door on the right to reach the Basement. This area’s a bit difficult, as you must avoid falling through pits. Once you make it to the end, you can use the next door to reach the Boiler, where the Dimension Door lies.

Enemies:
Axem: A mecha ranger carrying an axe. He can slash you at close range, and shoot a beam from far away. Ground Pound him 3 times to defeat him.
Machine-Made Gloom: A metal Gloom that shoots lasers. Ground Pound him 3 times to win.

Springer Guy: A green Shy Guy on a pogo stick. He’s invincible to all of your attacks, but is clumsy. You must lure him off the edge to defeat him.
Pounder: A hammer enemy that chases you, forever pounding. Jump on him 5 times to get rid of him.
Yaridovich: A large spear enemy that shoot fire stones at you. He’s immune to everything, so avoid him at all costs.

Dorbs
Dorb 1 – Fiery Furnace: The furnace is your first destination. Enter it to reach a lava area. Reach the top of the platforms to get a Dorb.

Dorb 2 – Areos!: Arrows are falling out of the sky, and they can damage you and freeze you for a short time. Follow the shown path to reach an arrow-shooting machine. Punch it several times to get a Dorb.

Dorb 3 – The Bolts: Bolt lifts are floating in the air. Standing on them too long will cause them to fall. Jump across them quickly to reach a Dorb.

Dorb 4 – Conveyor Crossing: A set of floating conveyor belts is in the air, and you must cross them all to reach another Dorb.

Dorb 5 – Gears and Gears: A large set of floating gears have now appeared. Jump to the very top to reach a Dorb.

Dorb 10 – Mr. L’s Marathon: Mr. L creates a warp pipe leading to another obstacle course. He’ll challenge you to beat him the end. The course has bolts, belts, and gears, and if you reach the end before him, you’ll get a Dorb.

Final World – Horroria
At last, the final world, Necros’s world of darkness. You’ll have to put all of your skill and forms to the test. Many new enemies appear.

Unlocking the World: Every time you defeat the boss of a world (beating Dorb 7), you’ll receive a Black Key. When you collect all 10 Black Keys, they’ll shoot a black light that creates a Dark Tower in the Castle of Dimension.

Entrance: In the Deck Floor, head up the stairs to the left and use the door to reach the Parapets. Follow the path until you see an entrance. You’ll enter the Tower. Jump up the stairs and reach the top to see the Dimension Door.

Enemies:
Neogloomer
Shadow Necros
Swamp Spitter: A skull head that appears in the Bog. He shoots poison water at it. He’s far out at the poison water, so you can strike him.
Reacher: A large head and hands that appears in the Bog. Appears out of the ground. If he grabs you, you’ll take some damage. Ground Pound his head to beat him.
Thunder Lakitu: Appears in the Bog. This yellow Lakitu can shoots lightning at you. He’s too high to attack, so just run.
Strawhead: Large scarecrow that appears in the Graveyard. Attack him 10 times to beat him. He only moves around, but touching him without attacking does damage.
Kreepy Koopa: Appears in the Graveyard and Tower. These green Koopas can hurt you if you touch them, even by punching. 5 Ground Pounds will defeat them.
Tall Bones: Appears in the Tower. This tall Dry Bones throws bones at you, and all your attacks don’t do anything. When he throws a bone, spin attack to repel it back to hurt him. Do this 5 times to beat him.
Glopple: Appears in the Tower. A white Glost that’s immune to everything. Jump to avoid it.

Areas:
Haunted Bog: The first part of the world is a dark swamp with poisonous water. Don’t fall in. You must jump over the water and climb many vines to reach the end. Look out for Reachers, as they could drop you into the water. You’ll know you’re close to the end when you reach Thunder Lakitus. Music: Banjo Kazooie – Mad Monster Mansion (Exterior)

Graveyard: This is the next part, but it’s a small cemetery. The end gate is locked, and the only way to unlock it is to defeat all the enemies. First you must punch away all the gravestones to make the Strawheads and Kreepy Koopas appear. Once you defeat all of them, the gates will unlock. Music: Banjo Kazooie – Mad Monster Mansion (Outside Church)

Tower of Darkness: The final area is Necros’ Tower. Good luck, you’ll need it.
Lower Floors: The first few floors are mainly fighting and forming to unlock gates. Make sure to hit coins blocks to regain health. Music: Mario Party – The Stolen Stars
Upper Floors: The final floors are jumping challenges. You must jump countless platforms to reach the top. Don’t fall, you may just die. Once you reach the top, the final battle begins. Music: Dr. Fruitcake Original – Dark Days

119 Dorbs – The Tower’s Basement: When you collect all the other 119 Dorbs, a door unlocks on the first of the tower, leading to the Basement. In there is the boss fight with Gloomey Piranha for the final Dorb.

BOSSES
Petunia Piranha: Petey Piranha’s mother. She was just sleeping until Mario decided to bother her. She shoots giant seeds at Mario, can slap him at close range, spit out sludge, and can shoot a tornado that knocks Mario off balance.

When she shoots giant seeds, avoid them and pick one up. When she’s about to spit sludge (opens her mouth), throw it in her mouth to choke her and make her faint. Ground Pound on her head. Do this 3 times to win.
Music: Mario Pinball Land – Petey Piranha Battle

Pirate Wario: Wario in his pirate costume. He’ll mainly try to charge at you, which you can easily avoid. Jump on him 3 times, and he’ll hop to the far platform and throw garlic at you. When he throws them, spin attack to repel it back. After a hit he’ll return to the same platform. Do this 2 more times to win.
Music: Mario Party – Wario’s Battle Desert (Fast Remix)

Cubor: All he does is move up and down, but you must avoid the falling boulders. You must punch all the red spots on his sides and head to beat him.
Music: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time – Bowsers Battle

Wart: Time for a redux. Just like the original fight, there’s a vegetable-creating machine on the side. Pick up and throw them at Wart 10 times to beat him. During the fight, he’ll shoot bubbles that can hurt you.
Music: Super Mario Bros. 2 – Wart Battle

Captain Guy: This is a different boss than the others, as you play a mini-game, Captain Guy Says. Any of you who have played Shy Guy Says (or the flag game from Mario Party 8) will be good at this. Raise the Wii Remote to raise the white flag, and raise the Numbchuck to raise the red flag. The object is to copy the other.

When you start, Mario will stand on a plank that has 3 ropes holding it. When Captain Guy raises a flag, you must raise the same flag; and if you mess up, he will cut one of the ropes. If he cuts all 3, you lose. After 5 moves, the tables turn, and Captain Guy stands on another plank with 3 ropes.

Now it’s your turn to raise flags. You raise 5 times, and if Captain Guy messes up, Mario will automatically cut a rope. The two will keep alternating. Keep copying and raising until Captain Guy messes up 3 times, and you’ll win.
Music: Mario Party 2 – That’s All of It

Blooper Spinning Ride: AAAAHHHH!!! The Blooper ride is on a rampage. It only has one attack, shoot sludge, but his mouth follows you, so keep jumping. Hop onto one of the tentacles, and jump onto the other moving one. Keep tentacle-hopping until you reach the top of the Blooper’s head, and fall down the hole.

Now you’re inside the Blooper. You’ll see 3 Thunder Columns, but no T Block. Walk through the interior, avoiding the spinning fans, until you see a Blue Switch, which creates a T Block at the top. Use it to become Elec-Mario, and shoot one of the Thunder Columns. Mario will be shot out. Continue entering the Blooper (you don’t have to hit the Blue Switch again) and shoot the other two Columns to change the Blooper ride back to normal. Good job.
Music: Banjo-Tooie – Hag 1 Battle

King Inyourface: A white pharaoh completely made of glass. The camera changes to an overhead view, and the arena is long with 6 pharaoh statues. Every time you try to break him, the statues bring him back to life. He can shoot ice pillars and create a long-range ice breath attack. His later move is Blizzard, where the whole area is frozen. To avoid it, you have to jump countless times.

1 of the 6 statues is red, and a hammer is hidden behind one of the 6. Find it, and destroy the red statue. After destroying a statue, the King gets faster. After you destroy all 6, the King will create an icy prism around himself. All you have to do is punch it away while avoiding the falling icicles, then punch him once to shatter the pharaoh.
Music: Paper Mario – Crystal King Battle

Mega Gloom: A giant, black, muscle-bound Gloom with a tiny head.

His main attack is raising his first and punching it down. He can also summon minions. There's a switch to the left that creates light, but Gloom can avoid it. To stop him, avoid his fist smash and punch it enough times to shatter it. Do the same with his second fist. Then, his head will drop and Glooms will appear. Defeat them and hit his head enough times to turn him white. Hit the light switch to make him shatter. Now you must face 5 Neogloomers while avoiding Shadow Necroses. Make sure to hit the coin block. Defeat all the Neogloomers to win.
Music: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories – Struggle Away (Heartless Boss Battle)

Pipsy Pongo: A robotic Peach that’s a cousin to Minjy Jongo (from Banjo Tooie). She’ll warp around and shoot lasers, and you must punch her 8 times to win. Eventually, the attacks get faster. Her final move is where she shoots a long laser and spins around, and you must jump several times. This battle is fast and hard.
Music: Banjo-Tooie – Mingy Jongo Battle

Smithy’s Malfunctioning Factory: The gears and belts are fast and there are more enemies. You must reach the Core Room at the far end of the area. Inside are many Neogloomers. Defeat all of them to create a T Block. Use it to become Elec-Mario, and use him to activate the Thunder Columns to stop the malfunction.
Music: Diddy Kong Racing – Boss Race

Gloomey Piranha: A giant, dark silhouetted Piranha Plant head that shoots fireballs and can create shockwaves. After he creates shockwaves, he’ll stay on the ground for a little bit, giving you time to Ground Pound. Do this 10 times to win the final Dorb.
Music: Mario Pinball Land – Big Boo Battle

Necros: At long last! You’ve collected many Dorbs, defeated other bosses, and ascended his tower. You fight him in a circular arena with four giant blocks at the corners.

This Black Magikoopa starts off floating high in the air, shoots Lightning, and creates a Shockwave you must jump over. His final move is Electrosphere, a total area-attacking move. To do damage to him, when he charges up for Electrosphere (long charge), hide behind one of the blocks. After the attack, he falls on the ground for a little bit. Attack him when he does.

After 5 hits, he’ll summon a second wand and destroy the giant blocks. He can now use Double Lightning and Double Shockwave. He also can shoot long amounts of Lightning while spinning in a circle, and you must jump. His final new move is when the area darkens, he’ll use Thunder Session, where he shoots many Lightning Bolts, Just move around to avoid them. This time, when he charges up for Electrosphere, a T Block appears in the center. Transform into Elec-Mario, and you won’t take damage from the attack. Jump on him when he falls to the ground.

After 5 more hits, he loses his wands (which creates two coin blocks if you need to refill) and his robe (he’s a really skinny Koopa), and you can see his long tail. Now he’s only on the ground, is fast, and uses Melee moves. He can charge at you, block your attacks, punch, and still create Shockwaves. Whenever you see him drop his guard, attack him anyway. After enough hits, he’ll temporarily faint. Grab his tail, spin him around fast, and throw him off the tower.

YOU WIN!
Music: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories – The Force in You (Riku Battle)

Ending
Theme: Super Mario Bros. 2 – Ending Sequence (Orchestrated by Dr. Fruitcake)

As Necros falls from his tower, all of the Glooms begin to melt away. Lakitus begin to enter the area and destroy the Tower, and one flies Mario away back to the castle. Once there, all of the Dimension Dwellers thank Mario, and applaud him as he runs back to his house. The credits start.

Credits Theme: Super Mario 64 Ending Credits

Once Mario gets back to his house, he doesn’t see Luigi, and just watches TV.

120 and Beat the Game
Luigi’s Quest in Luigi Land

When you collect all 120 Dorbs, Adventure L will be unlocked in the menu. You can now play as Luigi as he explores his own theme park.

The Mr. L Mascots: Not everything is peaceful in Luigi Land. 20 mascots have dressed up as Mr. L and are ruining the park. You must explore the entire park and defeat all of them by throwing them to scare them off.
Music: DDR Mario Mix: World 3

The Big Top: After you do, Toad will invite you to go the Big Top with him. Follow him inside, and he’ll challenge you to jump to go to the top. This is another jumping challenge, including trampolines.
Music: Wario World – Wonky Circus

Dimentio: Once you reach the top, Dimentio (the black and white clown mage) will appear from the Otherworld to fight Luigi. He mainly shoots magic blasts at you, and you must press all 4 switches near the cannons. Once you do, they’ll shoot Bob-ombs at Ddmentio. Do this 10 total times to win. It’s a pretty easy battle, just don’t fall off the cliff.
Music: Super Paper Mario – Dimentio Fight

Completion Bonuses
You get 3 bonuses.

First, now you can go to Golden Pedestal, and when you activate it, you’ll get 99 lives.

Second, when you beat the game, during the ending, when Mario reaches his house, Luigi will be there to drag him back to Luigi Land.

Third, you’ll unlock a new boss battle in the menu.

Bonus Boss – Tubba Blubba
Music: Paper Mario – Tubba Blubba Battle

Why is this battle here? ‘Cause I like fighting Tubba Blubba. You fight him in his castle, and he starts off invincible. He can punch at close range, create a Shockwave, and has a long-range lick attack.

Keep dodging his attacks until his heart falls through the ceiling. It’s a bit fast, but can be caught. Catch it, and throw it into Tubba’s mouth to weaken him. Now you just have to punch him a lot and you win. Have fun fighting him as many times as you want.

Multiplayer
Found in the main menu. You can play with up to 4 players, but sadly, no online play.

Race: You can race on set courses in each of the 10 Worlds and Castle of Dimensions.
